E-Mail is for Old People

I think that this will be out topic for Tuesday.

This is an interesting article from the Chronicle of Higher Education on ways that universities are communicating with students.

The brunt of the article is that students tend to prefer alternative means of communication over email. The article details what these alternatives are (some examples at least) and ways that universities are trying to communicate with their students.

Some of my questions are:

1. How does SNU communicate with students?
2. How do you communicate with students, professors, colleauges, friends, and so forth?
3. Are social networking spaces, most notably Cyworld in Korea, better than email at communicating with groups?
4. Is text messaging best?
5. What alternatives would you like to see for university/student, and professor/student communication?
6. What is the role of the university in facilitating communication?
7. Is the SNU information technology department (if there is one) up to this challenge?
