Should Cell Phones Be Banned From School? - OhmyNews International

This is one of those issues that has been rehashed with each new technology over the years. Cell phones are one of the most contentious because they are considered an extremely disruptive technology. This doesn't mean that they are simply an annoyance, but that they change (or have the potential to change) the ways in which we work, play, and live in general.

Here are a few questions for you:
1) At what age should a child get a cell phone?
2) Should they be able to take them to school?
3) What limitations should be placed on usage of mobile technologies in school (or elsewhere)?
4) Are there potential benefits to using cell phones in schools? What are they?
5) Could/should schools require the use of cell phones (as some schools do with traditional computers)? What problems might this cause?
6) What technologies were banned when you were an elementary/middle/high school student? Technologies encompass a broad swath of items that can even include low-tech items such as pencils and pens :)
