English as an official language is a topic that seems to come and go in Korea with some regularity. This press release from last October announces a plan to make English an official language in 3 economic zones: Incheon, Busan-Jinhae and, Gwangyang, and Jeju.
What are the benefits of this move?
What would it really change?
Do you think that the government will follow through on this, or is it just a passing fancy for some government administrator?

I agree with the plan of boosting English as official language. It will surely help improve international compatitiveness of Koreans, perhaps in next generation.
Development of Korea is based on human resources, as our country does not have natural resources. If Koreans were more comfortable with English business, the country would be profitable in business, academic area as well as tourism.
We all may agree with the point. But how we can invest money and to what extent do we need to allow English-necessary surroundings?
Long term plan should be taken for the next step considering collective voice. Investment from the first stage would be worthwhile I think.
