SNU Announces New Retirement Rules

I"m not sure why this is titled,"...Retirement Rules." It seems to me to be about tenure. I hope that tenure doesn't equal retirement, though some may argue that it does :)

Regardless of the title, the article discusses a very interesting change in policy. Basically, they are saying that you must be recognized internationally and not just nationally to attain tenure.

Do you think that this is a good policy change? What are some of the benefits and drawbacks of the change? Should professors at Korean universities be held to higher standards than professors at U.S. research universities (they don't have to get international support)?
